Wichita city managers travel

on

At the same time that the City of Wichita is struggling with its budget, including making layoffs, senior managers still travel.

City council members still travel too, as last week the council approved travel expenses for Janet Miller to travel to France for a sister cities meeting. It’s unclear whether the city will also pay for the Wichita Area Sister Cities President to make the trip.

Some of the trips the Wichita managers made sound like worthwhile trips. In the private sector, however, travel to conferences and such is one of the first things to be cut when budgets are stretched.

  1. Seems to me if that’s the sort of thing she’s interested in she should pay for herself. If it’s something to benefit the city, that’s different.
So now not only I am paying for repairs on other peoples homes now I’m paying for them to travel while I can’t afford to do either for myself. Is that it?
So when my home falls into disrepair because I’m paying for other folks expenses and can’t afford my own, will they fine me, take what little I have left, and then what, throw me into debtors prison?

The travel budget for the Mayor and Council members has more than doubled since the 2007 elections. Does anyone remember the senior management abuses of travel of 2003 and the firing of the City Financial Director and Risk Manager???

After a tough campaign race for her Council seat, Councilwoman Janet Miller deserves a little “fun and games” with the girls in Paris, France. The Wichita taxpayer’s should just “chill”. As Mayor Brewer has publicly said many times: “To the Winner goes the Spoils”.
